Don't let this worry you!

Facebook keeps track of your friends' birthdays, and sending them a message on their special day only takes a couple seconds.

There's nothing cool about opening your profile and finding some wimp has drawn a naked woman on your wall made from asterisks (*), dollar signs ($) and dashes (-).

Like drunken text messages, inebriated wall posts lead to heartache, in more ways than you can imagine.

There are literally thousands of Facebook applications on the market, but having too many can clutter your profile and make you look like a stinky geek.

There is nothing more tragic than a Facebook profile devoted to a loved one or a potential partner.
Installing Facebook apps is as simple as ordering something to eat from a restaurant menu.

As 21st Century gadgets go, cell phones are taking over the world. The phone's eminence was long prophesized by the most famous fictional gadget in TV history, the Shoe Phone used by agent 86 on the 60s show, Get Smart:

Operator: "You have dialed incorrectly. Give me your name and address and your dime will be refunded."
Smart: "Operator, I'm calling from my shoe!"
Operator: "What is the number of your shoe?"
Smart: "It's an unlisted shoe, Operator!"

The technology behind the voice telephone is so ubiquitous today that the Shoe Phone would be a simple matter were there a market for such a gadget. But today's phones double and triple as much more than a shoe.

The cell phone started off as simply a mobile voice communications device, allowing its user to take the handset with them anywhere within range of a compatible telephone network, or cell. The cell phone user can then dial a phone number directly on the handset's keypad. Radio waves transmitted from the handset are received by the network to conduct a conventional telephone circuit switch to the other party's telephone.

Friday and Saturday, I will emphasize my connections with others. Of special note, particularly on Sunday, will be how power and control are divided.

If you believe that you're knocking yourself out for a cause, person or relationship, and mostly getting grief in return, you might decide that it's time to take a breather away from it all.

My holiday weekend builds up to this conclusion. It doesn't seem entirely possible or worthwhile to back away from something that is woefully lopsided . . .

Cell phone GPS tracking can also be a useful feature to the emergency services or police when responding to a 911 call from a GPS cell phone. Picture the scene of a road accident where injuries have occurred. Cell phone GPS tracking is also a boon to the police force and emergency medical services when they need to respond to an emergency call from a GPS mobile phone. Such calls are known as E911 calls, and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has legislated that wireless networks provide location information for 911 calls made from cell phones.

Cell phone GPS tracking can therefore be a useful feature for business owners and fleet managers who need to be able to keep track of their vehicle movements. Cell phone GPS tracking capabilities can even show you the shortest possible way to get to your destination.

Cell phone GPS can pinpoint the location of a cell phone within about five meters, which is up to ten times the accuracy given to us by triangulation.  Global Positioning Systems (GPS) enables the users to trail his own location through the analysis of satellite signals beamed down from many satellites. Cell phone GPS system tracking has been a part of the technology that makes of cell phones since 2005. Locating someone is a popular job for a lot of detectives and cell phone GPS tracking is one thing that can make this task a lot easier.

Background checks have proven to be beneficial both to employers and employees. They prevent future damages that could be caused by negligent hiring. As an employer, you are given the responsibility to screen all the people that will be involved in your business. You are expected to anticipate potential problems that could occur in the future especially those caused by new employees. If an employer fails to do so and therefore inflict damage on the company and its employees, the company owner could be sued for Negligent Hiring. Statistics have shown that 70% of lawsuits on Negligent Hiring cases are lost by the company owners. These facts just reinforce the importance of pre-employment background checks on employment decision-making.

There are several other incidences (aside from negligent hiring) that a background check can protect you from. Statistics from the Bureau of Justice has shown that 67% of criminals released from jail were rearrested for at least a single serious crime with the next 3 years and that almost 60% of sex offenders are under parole in the United States. According to the New York Times, 70% of illegal drug users have full time jobs. And according to a national survey by the University of Florida, American employees steal about $10.4 million from their employers over a one-year period. Now think about it, would you entrust any of these people with your business?

Background checks are also used to verify educational degrees, professional licenses, references and past employment records that applicants put in their resumes. According to the American Psychological Association, 67% of resumes in the United States are falsified or “enhanced”. Hence, resumes should always be double checked and validated with other sources to prove the applicants credibility and character.

I trust that you now understand just how important an employment background check is as a part of the hiring process. As the employer, you are responsible in protecting your business and your employees from potential dangers brought about by negligent hiring.

Lots of us get crank calls or find suspicious numbers on our caller id we don't recognize. Where do you actually get free white pages on the web?

If you decide that doing the legwork is the way that you want to go you will have to decide which resource to use. Perhaps the best reverse cell phone number lookup service I could find is included on this site at the top of this page, a company known as Reverse Phone Detective. Using reverse cell phone directory you can find information on any cell number in North America.

This is beneficial if you're worried about a cheating spouse, prank callers or who kids are calling. The database includes both American and Canadian residential and business phone numbers and addresses that are listed in the public directory for landline phones. The listing will also tell you if the number is a landline, and even what phone company they have, though this information is not always accurate and up to date.

These services put a lot of effort and time into gathering information to update their databases. The databases include cell phones plus residential, business, toll-free, even pagers, and these websites say your searches are guaranteed legal and confidential.

If you're wondering where you can get a hold of such amazing services, look no further. If you're wondering where you can get a hold of such amazing services, look no further.

How to identify junk faxers

The good news is that you can always find out who is sending you the junk faxes if you follow the steps below.

First use this page: How to identify the fax broadcaster

If you get an unsolicited fax, follow this procedure (one of the first three is almost always guaranteed to work):

- Have the phone company put a call trap on your line. When you get a fax, you dial a special code after receipt or keep a call log and enter it periodically. They can then release this information to the police/sheriff and the police/sheriff will release it to you or your attorney in response to a subpoena. You can have the information you want within days and it's admissible and credible in court. We highly recommend this. See the Q&A for more on traps.

- The simplest way to find out who they are is to pretend you are actually interested in their offer and try to fool them into giving you their real address, e.g, you don't have a credit card and need to mail them a check or you are the purchasing agent at your company and you have to have an address to send the Purchase Order. Be creative. Only problem is that this strategy only potentially identifies the advertiser and not the fax blaster...

- Highly recommended: Use Intelius which offers a very comprehensive set of searches and is very similar to Docusearch. Unlike Docusearch they can trace the source of a fax call into your phone number.  Instant Landline, VOIP, Fax, Payphone, Toll free, Mobile or Cell phone directory Assistance.  You can instantaneously search through publicly available resources for name and/or address of any residential, business, cell, internet, fax, mobile, pager or pay phone including name, current address (when available), phone company, connection status and more.

- For pump and dump faxes, here's a possible approach. A few months after the fax appears, take a look at the price and volume graph for the stock. Also goto sec.gov and lookup filings by the issuer. I did this last night for an issue that a client of mine got a fax for last September and turned up the marketing agreement under which the presumptive faxer got the shares he dumped. Other filings to look for would be insider or high-volume purchases or sales, which must be reported.

With GPS technology now more commonplace in many new cell phones, that means that the location of anyone carrying a compatible cell phone can be accurately tracked at any time. The GPS, or Global Positioning System, tracks your geographical location by interpreting data from 3 or more satellites.

Cell phone GPS can pinpoint the location of a cell phone within about five meters, which is up to ten times the accuracy given to us by triangulation. Cell phone GPS system tracking has been a part of the technology that makes of cell phones since 2005.

Nokia can definitely see the future profit flow from GPS location based services and would be correct to assume that profit growth will shift to these mobile services from hardware. The Company makes a range of mobile devices with services and software that enable people to experience music, navigation, video, television, imaging, games, business mobility and more. Nokia also provides equipment, solutions and services for communications networks through Nokia Siemens Networks.

These phones are absolutely amazing and imagine a commercial showing the things you can do with Nokia's GPS Beta Software (supplied for free by their website).

Insofar as Facebook has become a sprawling, social networking community . . .

. . . it's (might as well say) inevitable that some people will act in ways that will annoy fellow members. So, based on online blogs, articles and using Facebook religiously, here are our Top 10 tips on Facebook Etiquette.

1. Don't be Afraid to 'Ignore' Someone!

Probably the number one conundrum on Facebook is how to respond when you're contacted by a blast from the past, who (for whatever reason) you don't particularly feel like getting back in touch with.

Don't let this worry you! If you 'ignore' them when they friend request you (by pressing your 'ignore' button), they won't get a message saying you rejected them, or anything kinda' awkward like that. Think of it as pretending you didn't see them, while walking down the street -- hey, it happens all the time, to everyone. Lighten up!

2. Give Good Birthday Greetings
Facebook keeps track of your friends' birthdays, and sending them a message on their special day only takes a couple seconds. Plus, it'll help you save face for forgetting to send them an actual card! So, "be a friend to your friends" and take the time to ping them off a message.

3. Respect the Wall

There's nothing cool about opening your profile and finding some wimp has drawn a naked woman on your wall made from asterisks (*), dollar signs ($) and dashes (-). Hey, it's a public display to Facebook friends, so the least you could do is show a little respect.

4. Talking to Strangers?

Although adding people (you haven't actually met) as friends is a great way to boost the size of your list, it's a practice that frowned upon by "Facebook aficionados." OMG, they even have a name for these people: Creepers!

5. Stay Sober

Like drunken text messages, inebriated wall posts lead to heartache, in more ways than you can imagine. If you've ever had a Black Russian (or two...), we're probably thinking along the same lines already! Long story short: Don't drink and Facebook (or blog, for that matter). You'll be sorry!

6. Who Wants a Clean House?

There are literally thousands of Facebook applications on the market, but having too many can clutter your profile and make you look like a stinky geek. Remember, you can delete applications once you get bored with them, and there are often several applications to choose from that do the same thing (to check out the best applications click here).

7. Avoid "Shrines" Like the Plague

Pakistan - MultanThere is nothing more tragic than a Facebook profile devoted to a loved one or a potential partner. Face book is all about you, what you've been up to and what you've got to say for yourself -- not about someone else you're trying to impress.

8. Add an App or Two

Installing Facebook apps is as simple as ordering something to eat from a restaurant menu. There is no need to download any files, and no need to copy anything to your hard disk, or run any kind of complex installer. This is because all the available applications are stored on Facebook's own system.

My 10 favorite applications are Video, My Questions, Graffiti, Top Friends, Superpoke!, X Me, Fortune Cookie, iLike, Free Gifts and Horoscopes.

9. No Place for Stalkers

A lot of people won't join Facebook! Apparently, they're afraid of being stalked by cyber-bullies, ex-partners or creepy online admirers (women stalk me like that all the time -- just kidding)! But seriously, if you play around with its privacy settings, Facebook is really a safe place for anyone.

10. A Note on Privacy

NaneLimon

For some reason, people often feel strangely comfortable revealing details online that they would never discuss in "real life," but beware. Facebook lets you categorize yourself in many ways, including your sexual preference(s), relationship status, and political views. And, although this information is deeply personal, posting it on Facebook makes it available both to people you know as well as those you'd probably rather not.

Facebook allows you, for example, to join as many virtual "groups" as you'd like; some are pretty straightforward (e.g., groups with names like "nerdy pickup lines," "you were sexy until I saw that cigarette in your hand," or "free rice"). Some, however, are organized around overtly controversial political or religious statements (e.g., "anti Hillary Clinton for president 08," "Against Gay Marriage? Then Don't Get One and Shut the F*ck Up," or "abortion is murder").

Here's my Point (and I do have one): One fifth of American companies actually admit to using the Internet to search for job candidates' Facebook profiles . . . which means the real number is probably a lot greater, and more importantly, there's no way for you to determine (after the fact) whether or not you've been passed up for a position/ promotion because you thought you were completely anonymous, saying the "wrong" thing, being friends with the "wrong" person, or joining the "wrong" group on Facebook. Think!

Apparently, our Canadian friends seem to "get it" ... I found the above clip from CBC-TV's "Cell Phone: The Ring Heard Around the World," aired in Canada on April 3, in which Professor Paul Levinson talks about the intersection of the Obama, and the cell phone, revolutions . . . .

Barack Obama has been intelligently using cell phone technology (not to mention, mobile computing and web 2.0 technology -- I know because I'm on his mailing list) to communicate and motivate the American populace like no other presidential candidate ever has. The effectiveness of his campaign has proven out in his superb numbers.

Personally, I think it's nice to hear that so many Canadians have been paying close attention to what Dr. Levinson calls the "cell phone revolution," and especially to the American Presidential elections; many people, both here and there, are already convinced that Barack Obama will be our next President. What do you think?
